看到“代数”这两个大字，是不是很多小伙伴就已经摇头 + 摆手 + 转身走一键三连了呢？

“代数又抽象又难懂，学了有什么用？”也许每一位对着题目抓耳挠腮半天的同学都曾发出如此疑问。是啊，不学数学好像也能活得好好的，那为什么要花这个功夫去学呢？

可是，数学作为人类高级智慧的结晶，真的没用吗？真的离我们的生活很遥远吗？也许，听完国际班授课老师Hector的介绍，我们会发现数学可爱的一面。

代数是什么？

Algebra is all around us. From what shoe size we wear to the calculations needed to shoot the perfect basketball shot. These are infused with algebra. During the length of the course, we will learn how mathematics is the key to understanding the world around us.

代数，其实就在我们身边。要买什么码数的鞋子，要怎样才能完美投篮......这些日常问题当中，代数的奥妙无处不在。**这门课，我们将会明白，数学是我们开启这个世界之门的钥匙。

In many ways, algebra is the reason of how things happen. In this course, the point of it all is to work on discovering the mysteries of why the world works the way it does.

在很多方面，代数都能够解释事情发生的原因。而这门课的重点就是揭开世界的神秘面纱，看看世界为什么是这样运转的。

In other courses, such as language courses or philosophical courses, these answers are arrived through the limited vocabulary of a given language. In Algebra, we learn a universal language.

对于语言课、哲学课等其他课程来说，解读世界的方式是**某种给定的语言和有限的词汇来进行的。而在代数课上，我们学习的是全世界都能明白的通用语言。

学了代数有什么用

Algebra, and mathematics in general, is another language. To explain the world around us can be done by words. However, if someone speaks German and he wishes to convey his knowledge to a person that only knows Japanese, the knowledge is lost. However, if one could learn the language of mathematics, the knowledge has a very good chance to be universally understood.

正如前文提到的，数学其实是一种通用语言，是交流知识的桥梁。试想一下，如果只**文字来传播信息，那么一个只会德语的人想跟一个只会日语的人分享知识，将会变得非常困难。而数学语言的存在，就能让许多知识被更广泛的人所理解。

Students will benefit from learning Algebra not so they can all become engineers; they benefit from its demand of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

此外，也许学习代数并不能让同学们都成为出色的工程师，但却能让大家掌握批判思维，锻炼解决问题的能力。

怎样才能学好代数

If someone wants to learn how to swim, what would be the best way to do it? One could study the methods of the professionals. One could take lessons from teachers and masters of the craft. One could even just jump into the water and see what happens.

如果一个人想学游泳，那什么才是**的学习方式？答案可以是研究专业人士的方法、向老师和大师学习，甚至可以是直接跳入水中，看看会发生些什么。

To learn algebra, (and anything worthwhile), one must do all three of these things. Study the methods and theories throughout history. Listen to the tutorage of the teacher and ASK questions. Finally, there is nothing wrong with practice and more practice.

上面提到的三件事，对于学习代数和其他很多事来说，都是必要的。所以同学们要了解现有的方法理论、跟着老师的节奏并积极提问，然后练习、练习、再练习。

It might be a struggle in the beginning, especially if you are completely unknown to the subject. As long as one does his/her part through one’s efforts, one will succeed.

在一开始这可能会很艰难，尤其是在面对自己一无所知的领域的时候。但只要大家一步一个脚印，努力走好每一步，就一定能成功驾驭这门课。
